Men’s Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season at Mary Washington

Fredericksburg, Va. – The Catholic University of America men's track & field team began its outdoor season on Saturday as the Cardinals competed at the Mary Washington Opener.

Catholic went 1-2 in the pole vault as sophomore Chadd Ziegler was the first to clear 4.11 meters and was followed by freshman Dillon Frawley. The height was a meet record at Mary Washington.

Sophomore Derek Chapey had one of the best runs of the day for the Cards as he took second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.64.

Junior Brian Seward, who did not compete indoor as he also plays men's basketball at Catholic University, got off to a strong start with a bronze performance in the 200-meter dash as he crossed the finish line in 23.58. Seward also took fourth in the 400 at 52.70.

Another multi-sport athlete for the Cardinals also made his 2017 track & field debut as junior Patrick Jones, who runs cross country and swims at Catholic, finished sixth in the 1,500 at 4:19.58.

Sophomore Kevin Kuchler added a top-10 performance as he placed seventh in the 5,000 at 16:16.72.

Next up, the Cardinals will head to Towson, Md., to compete at the Goucher Invitational on Saturday, March 25 at 10 a.m.
