Catholic Sweeps First Landmark Outdoor Track & Field Awards

WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America men's track & field team began its 2017 outdoor season in strong fashion and swept the Landmark Conference Weekly Awards. Junior sprinter Brian Seward was recognized as the Track Athlete of the Week, while sophomore Chadd Ziegler was tabbed Field Athlete of the Week.

Seward, who did not compete indoor as he also plays men's basketball at Catholic University, got off to a strong outdoor track start with a bronze performance in the 200-meter dash as he crossed the finish line in 23.58. He also took fourth in the 400 at 52.70.

Catholic actually went 1-2 in the pole vault as Ziegler was the first to clear 4.11 meters and took home the gold. He was followed by freshman Dillon Frawley in second. The height was a meet record at Mary Washington. Ziegler and Frawley were nearly a meter higher than the third-place finisher.

Next up, the Cardinals will head to Towson, Md., to compete at the Goucher Invitational on Saturday, March 25 at 10 a.m.
