LaPointe Leads Cards at Landmark Championships

Bethlehem, Pa. – The Catholic University of America men's track & field team completed the two-day Landmark Conference Championships on Sunday and posted several strong performances on their way to a fifth-place finish.

Rookie Joseph LaPointe led the way for the Cardinals as he earned the win in the 1,500 after taking the title at the indoor meet. LaPointe posted a time of 4:03.72, just 0:00.02 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. 

Junior Brian Seward posted a fifth-place finish in the 100-meter dash at 11.73 seconds.

Sophomore Derek Chapey also showed his speed as he finished fourth in the 400 at 50.80 seconds.

Sophomore Kevin Kuchler added a top-five performance as he finished the 10,000 in 33:28.34.

Catholic added silver medal performance in the 4x100 relay as the team of Chapey, sophomore Jake Marcelino, freshman Joseph McAlonan and Seward combined for a time of 44.32 seconds. 

The Cardinals 4x400 team was just as impressive as Seward, rookie Cosmo Pirozzi, sophomore Peter Binck and Chapey earned a second silver at 3:25.10, over three seconds faster than its season-best mark.

The silvers kept coming for Catholic as Marcelino finished second in the men's high jump as he cleared 1.88 meters. Marcelino also added a bronze in the triple jump as he went 13.29 meters.

Additionally, rookie Dillon Frawley earned second in the pole vault as he went of 4.10 meters for the silver.
