Men Place Third at Goucher Invite
Smith wins the 5,000 meters
WASHINGTON- The Catholic University men's track and field squad placed third at the Goucher Invitational on Saturday. The team scored 82 points which was good enough to beat host and CAC-rival, Goucher (74), but CUA did fall to York who won the meet with 260 points.
Andrew Smith (Arlington, Tenn./Bolton) was the lone winner of the day for CUA taking the top spot in the 5,000 with a 16:24.24. Scott Pospiech (Ocean, N.J./Holy Spirit) had a strong performance in the 800 taking second with a 2:01.69. Fourth place finishes belonged to John Puskar (Fairfield, Conn./Notre Dame Catholic) in the 400 (53.24) and Paul Santuoso (Miami, Fla./Belen Jesuit) in the 1,500 meters (4:21.31).
In the field, John Mason (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) had a solid day in the throws. Mason was second in both the discus (129-06) and hammer (116-02). Other good field performances included Jacob Herring (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) with a second in the triple jump (38-11.00) and a fourth in the high jump (5-06) as well as the long jump (18.02-05). Eric Schoeffling (Norristown, Pa./La Salle) was fourth in the javelin throwing a 160-00.
The men will have next weekend off before traveling to eh Messiah Invitational.
