Field Events Strong in Fourth
CUA will prepare for Landmark meet
GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The Catholic University men's track and field team, bolstered by its field events, placed fourth out of nine teams at the Mason Dixon Invitational at Gettysburg College on Saturday. The Cardinals scored 60 points at the meet, which placed them behind Gettysburg who won the competition with 314.50. However, CUA did defeat Landmark Conference rival Goucher College who had 39 points on the day.
Freshman pole vaulter Andrew Kolbeck (Pewaukee, Wis/Trinity Academy) led the Cardinals with the lone first place finish of the afternoon as he easily cleared 3.96 meters. Thrower Stephen Prieur (Herndon, Va./Oakton ) also had a big day competing in a number of events and placing second in the hammer throw with a toss of 27.85 meters. In the jumps, Joe Loeffler was third in the triple jump hitting 10.83 meters and rounding out the top field finishers was Eric Schoeffling (Norristown, Pa./La Salle) with a fourth place finish in the javelin (48.60 meters).
On the track, the distance runners continued to score points for the Cards. Scott Pospiech (Ocean, N.J./Holy Spirit) was second in the 800 meters running a 2:01.13. Andrew Smith (Arlington, Tenn./Bolton) placed fourth in the 5,000 meters with a 17:01.00.
The Cardinals will have one final week to prepare for the Landmark Conference Championship next weekend.
