Smith Wins Conference Title in 10,000 Meters
CUA places fourth overall
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Catholic University men's track and field team placed fourth at the Landmark Conference Track and Field Championship Sunday in Pennsylvania. The Cardinals scored 52 points overall for the fourth spot in the six-team championship.
Andrew Smith (Arlington, Tenn./Bolton) had the top performance of the day winning the 10,000 meters in a time of 33:16.05 to claim the conference title as well as first team all-conference honors and set the new school record. Smith was also fourth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:09.95.
The Cardinals had one top performance in the field events as Eric Schoeffling (Norristown, Pa./La Salle) earned second team all-conference honors in the javelin after a controversial final throw falling by .01 meters. Schoeffling threw it 52.54 meters to place second in the event.
Moravian College won the event with 277 points on the day. The majority of the team has now completed their season with the exception of a few athletes who have qualified for the ECAC Championship.
