Men's Track Earns 4th Place at Landmark Championships
TOWNSON, Md.- Catholic University's men's track team competed in the Landmark Conference Championships over the weekend, earning fourth out of six teams overall with a total of 61 points. The men's team was shorthanded due to several late season injuries and academic commitments for some of the teams top performers, but still put up a strong showing at the meet.
John Mason (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) led the young Cardinal team, wracking up points in the discus, shot put, and hammer throws. The senior finished second the discus with a toss of 42.30m, and third in the the shot put with a throw of 12.82m. He also finished seventh in the hammer throw.
Mike Doster (Wayne/Wayne Valley) once again had a strong showing at the meet, earning a second place finish in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 54.74. He also finished third in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.80.
CUA's relay team of John Puskar (Fairfield, Conn./Notre Dame Catholic), Doster, Brian Norte (Taunton/Taunton), and Charles Smentowski ran the 4 x 400 relay in 46.38 for a third place finish. Steve Prieur (Herndon, Va./Oakton) earned a fourth place finish for the Cards in the discus throw with a toss of 35.19m. Eric Schoefflling (Norristown, Pa./La Salle) and Andrew Smith (Arlington, Tenn./Bolton) both finished sixth in the javelin throw and 5000 meter run, respectively.
