Number of strong performances highlight CUA's day in Virginia
BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The CUA men’s track and field
team had a strong showing at the Bridgewater Invitational on
Saturday. Matt Zemba had an impressive first place
performance in the 400 meters, crossing in 49.91 seconds, while
Mike Puskar took the title in the 3000 in a time of 9:30.19.
Joining Zemba in the 400 was Joe Funk, who posted a time of 56.48
seconds, good for seventh place.
In the 800 meters George Brewer crossed in 2:02.96, which was good
for fifth place, while Michael Kennedy came in eighth place with a
time of 2:11.09. Nick Pavia (10), Alex DaPonte (11), Kyle
McKenna (12) and Ryan Anderson (13) also competed in the event.
Chris Derks placed sixth in the 1500 with a time of 4:42.45 with
DaPonte (7) and McKenna (9) close behind, while in the 5000, Kian
Olia was third (17:19.09) and Joe Kenny fifth (18:45.79).
Shawn Brubaker finished fifth in the discus with a throw of 30.84
meters and second in the hammer (35.88 meters), while Zemba notched
an eighth place finish in the javelin (36.11 meters).
On Saturday, April 2 CUA will head to Pennsylvania where the
Cardinals will compete at the York Invitational. Start time
is 9 a.m.
