Zemba captures 400 meter title on final day of championships
HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Cardinals wrapped up competition at the 2011 Landmark Conference outdoor championships on Sunday. Matt Zemba won the 400 meters in a time of 50.39 to lead the Cardinals, while Joe Quigley raced his way to a second place showing in the 400 hurdles with a time of 58.44. CUA totaled 36 points throughout the weekend to finish in a tie for fifth place with Goucher.
In the 400, Zemba beat out 11 other competitors to capture the crown in 50.39 seconds and earn First Team All-Landmark Conference accolades.
Quigley also earned All-Conference honors with his second place finish in the 400 hurdles, sprinting to a time of 58.44 seconds. Nick Pavia also competed in the event and he placed tenth in a time of 1:03.44.
The 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams placed fifth in their respective events and in the field events Shawn Brubaker placed sixth in the hammer throw (125'8").
In the team standings Moravian took the top spot after scoring 272 points, and the Greyhounds were followed by Susquehanna with 225 points, Juniata with 137, Merchant Marine Academy with 55 and CUA and Goucher.
