Mark Robinson is in his 13th season as the head men's cross
country coach and third year as the head men’s track and
field coach at Catholic University. Prior to becoming head coach
Robinson was the middle-distance and distance coach at CUA,
assisting Jerry McGee, the head coach of the men's track team, from
1983 to 1996.
During the 2009 cross country season Robinson led the CUA men to a
pair of third place finishes at the Washington & Lee Invite and
the CUA Invite, respectively. The CUA Invite was the first
race that Catholic University hosted in over a decade and three
Cardinals posted top-20 finishes, including Andrew Smith who
crossed in second place. Smith then went on to cross in 25th
place at the NCAA Regional race, which earned him a spot on the
All-South Region Team.
The 2010 track season saw Robinson’s Cardinals put forth a
number of strong performances, including a second place finish at
the Lebanon Valley Invitational, highlighted by Brian Norte’s
pair of gold medals, and another second place finish at the Goucher
College Invitational. Smith was the top performer at that
meet with two first place performances.
During Robinson’s time as an assistant coach the Cardinals
produced scores of conference champions in distances ranging from
800 meters to 5000 meters, won five East Coast Athletic Conference
distance medley titles, and garnered All-American honors 12 times.
Included in the list are Tom Caffrey, 1992 NCAA Division III
national 1500 meter champion, and Paul Drumgoole, two-time national
runner-up in the 800 meters.
A Catholic University alumnus, Robinson was a two-time national
champion during his intercollegiate days and he is also the school
record holder in the mile (4:07.6) and 800 meters
(1:46.00).
Marie Kennedy begins her first year as the jumps coach with the Cardinal track and field teams although she is no stranger to the squad. Kennedy has run the Eugene I. Kane Student Fitness Center here on campus since its opening in 2004. At the fitness center she does everything from train students, organize classes, personal train and order equipment.
Kennedy has been training athletes for over 25 years. She has had experiences with almost every sport including basketball, soccer, field hockey and track as well as general performance training and conditioning.
The Pittsburgh native graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in health physical education and recreation. While at Pitt she was a four-year member and captain of the women's track and field team where she competed in the high jump, 400 and 400-meter relay. Kennedy qualified for nationals three times in the high jump ranking as high as fourth in the event. She was also a recipient of the Blue Gold Award for scholarship and athletic achievement as well as a Rhodes Scholar nominee.
Kenney lives in Great Falls, Va., with her husband Don, a retired Navy commander, and their daughters Stephanie and Kristen. Stephanie played tennis at CUA and is currently pursuing her Ph.D., at Duke University. Kristen is a biomedical engineering major and member of the CUA track and field team. She will compete in the jumps and middle distance this season.
Assistant coach Lloyd Jeremiah has been involved in the sport of track and field for over 30 years. He will be working with the Catholic University sprinters and hurdlers this season. Jeremiah began his running career as a champion hurdler and sprinter at Coolidge High School in Washington, D.C., where he was league champion in the 110 hurdles and also was named to the All-Met team which honors the top three competitors in each event in the greater Washington, D.C., area. He continued his career while competing for Garden City College in Garden City, Kan. At Garden City he was a four-time NJCAA All-American.
Jeremiah began his coaching career as the assistant track and field coach at The University of The District of Columbia and later became head track coach at Coolidge High School in D.C. While at Coolidge, he developed several outstanding student-athletes including runners who garnered All-Met and All-American honors. Jeremiah is an outstanding technician and teacher of hurdling theory and technique and he brings that knowledge and skill base along with the rare perspective of a coach who still competes in the events he coaches. Jeremiah competes in master's track and field and has been a finalist multiple times at the World Master's Track and Field Championships He will be competing this fall in the 2007 World Master's Championships in Italy.
Jeremiah is a native Washingtonian, still resides in D.C. He is a professional photographer with his own photography company.
