Newcomers lead CUA to strong showing at season opener
WILMINGTON, Del. – CUA opened its 2012 season with a
strong performance at the Wilmington University Invite on
Saturday. The Cardinals finished third in a nine-team field,
totaling 88 points along the way, led by freshman Matthias
Arauco-Shapiro, who placed second overall.
Arauco-Shapiro crossed in a time of 29:42.54 to place second
behind Wilimgton’s Bill Steele (29:21.53).
A pair of classmates joined Arauco-Shapiro in the top-15, with
Michael Wood coming in 10th (30:29.52) and John Brewer crossing in
15th (31:01.69).
Other Cardinals who placed in the top-50 included Dylan Jones in
28th (32:49.48), Chris Derks in 33rd (33:11.10), Kian Olia in 34th
(33:23.55), and Mike Spielberger in 50th (34:36.30).
Wilmington claimed the top spot in the team standings with 50
points, followed by Widener (64) and CUA (88).
Nyack (91), Howard Community College (133), Ocean County College
(140), Bloomfield (151), Lincoln (196) and University of Sciences
(208) rounded out the standings.
CUA is back in action on Saturday, September 15 when the Cardinals
compete at the Juniata Invitational. Start time is set for 10
a.m.
