Men Place Sixth at Goucher Invitational
Smith and Santuoso finish 12th and 13th
TOWSON, Md. - The Catholic University men's cross country team placed sixth overall at the Goucher Invitational on Saturday. The Cardinals scored 140 points to make them sixth out of ten teams, including five Landmark Conference opponents. The meet was a good tune-up for the conference meet which will be held in the same location in two weeks.
Andrew Smith (Arlington, Tenn./Bolton) and Paul Santuoso (Miami, Fla./Belen Jesuit) were the top finishers for the Cardinals coming in at 12th and 13th place overall. Smith ran a 29:14.06 while Santuoso crossed the line at 29:16.70. Also finishing in the top 40 were freshmen Stephen Jochem (Gallup, N.M./Gallup) and Matt Taylor (Mount Ephraim, N.J./Gloucester Catholic). Jochem was 34th with a 30:38.87 and Taylor was 37th running a 30:44.69.
Other top finishers for CUA included Scott Pospiech (Ocean, N.J./Holy Spirit) in 51st place with a time of 31:29.63, Kris Reynolds (Cooperstown, N.Y./Cooperstown Central) running a 32:03.10 for 58th place and John Puskar (Fairfield, Conn./Notre Dame Catholic) taking 67th with a 32:59.96.
The Cardinals were scheduled to go to the Tribe Invitational next weekend at William & Mary but have opted to get a week's rest before the conference meet on October 27.
