CUA is Second at Belmont Classic
Cards finish second out of 20 schools in strong meet
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Catholic University men's cross country took a step in the right direction Saturday with a big finish at the Belmont Classic at historic Fairmont Park in Philadelphia. The Cards finished second out of 20 teams with 87 points.
Junior Paul Santuoso (Miami, Fla./Belen Jesuit) led CUA after a weekend off finishing the 8K in a time of 28:04.31 which placed him an impressive sixth overall. Coming in ninth was sophomore Andrew Smith (Arlington, Tenn./Bolton) who posted a 28:10.35. Freshmen Stephen Jochem (Gallup, N.M./Gallup) and Matthew Taylor (Mount Ephraim, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) put together strong performances placing 18th and 21st in 28:57.70 and 29:06.60. Rounding out he point scorers was Scott Pospiech (Ocean, N.J./Holy Spirit) who was 38th overall with a 29:51.03.
Also finishing in the top 80 for the Cardinals were John Puskar in 53rd with a 30:40.41, Kris Reynolds (Cooperstown, N.Y./Cooperstown Central) running a 31:10.18 for 62nd and Matt Price (Fort Washington, Pa./LaSalle College High) finishing in 80th with a 32:04.94.
The Cardinals will face a number of conference squads next weekend at the Goucher Invitational in Towson, Md.
