Cardinals Place Fifth at W&L
Smith and Santuoso continue where they left off
LEXINGTON, Va. - The Catholic University men's cross country team took fifth place at the Washington & Lee Generals' Cross Country Invitational Saturday morning. The squad scored 156 points to beat eight teams at the event.
Picking up right where they left off last season, the battle for the top spot of the team was between Andrew Smith (Arlington, Tenn./Bolton) and Paul Santuoso (Miami, Fla./Belen Jesuit). This meet, Smith held the edge finishing 14th in a time of 30:42 while Santuoso came in 19th with a 31:03.
The next three finishers showcased the Cards' off season acquisitions with three freshmen placing highly. Stephen Jochem was 39th running a 32:07 and Matthew Taylor (Mount Ephraim, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) came in 48th with a 32:44. Rounding out the freshman phenoms was Kris Reynolds (Cooperstown, N.Y./Cooperstown Central) who was 63rd out of 124 runners coming in at 33:52.
The Cards will travel to New York City next Saturday to compete in the NYU Invitational.
