Kim Stengle is in her third season as an assistant coach with
the CUA women’s cross country and women's and men's track and
field programs. A 2007 graduate of CUA, Stengle was a
standout on the Cardinal track and field and women’s soccer
teams during her undergraduate days.
Stengle has made quite the impact during her first two years on
the CUA staff. She helped to mentor Kelly Carioto to two of
the best seasons at CUA in recent memory. Carioto captured
the 2011 Landmark Conference and ECAC indoor shot put
championships, the 2012 outdoor conference shot put and discus
titles, and was named a 2012 Academic All-American.
On the men's side Stengle worked with 2012 All-Conference
performer Pete Schramm, who placed second in the discus at the
outdoor championships.
Stengle also leads the Cardinals' recruiting efforts, helping to
secure some of the largest and talented freshmen classes in the
program's history.
Arguably the greatest women’s thrower in school annals,
Stengle accumulated a plethora of honors during her time at
CUA. She is the school record holder in the javelin, hammer,
and discus, and was a three-time conference champion in the
javelin, a two-time champion in the hammer and weight throw and she
also won the league title in the shot put once.
A two time captain of the Cardinals track and field team (2006,
2007), Stengle was named the Mason-Dixon Conference Athlete of the
Meet in 2005, the Capital Athletic Conference Track and Field
Athlete of the Year in 2006 and the Mason-Dixon Field Athlete of
the Year in 2007.
In addition to her success in track and field, Stengle was a
standout goalkeeper on the Cardinals women’s soccer
team. As a junior she helped lead CUA to an 18-1-2 record as
well as the CAC championship and an appearance in the NCAA
Tournament. Stengle remains the school record holder for
wins, wins in a season and goals against average and she was a 2006
First-Team All-CAC selection.
Following her senior year of athletic competition, Stengle was
awarded the Donley Cup by the CUA Athletics Department, which
recognizes the outstanding senior woman athlete and scholar.
Stengle graduated cum laude from Catholic University in
2007. Following graduation she taught fourth grade in
the Baltimore City Public School District for three years, while
also coaching track and field and soccer at Goucher College.
While at Goucher, Stengle helped lead one athlete to an
All-Landmark selection in the hammer and shot put, and another
athlete to the school record in the weight throw. In
addition, one of Stengle’s athletes received conference field
athlete of the week honors, and in soccer she mentored a Second
Team all-conference goalkeeper.
Stengle earned her master’s degree in social work from CUA in
2012. She has also completed two half-marathons and resides
in College Park.
