Yellow Jackets Sting Cards In Doubleheader
CUA falls to 11-11 on the season

4/8/2008

WASHINGTON - The Catholic University women's lacrosse squad dropped two games to the Randolph-Macon College Yellow Jackets (19-5) Tuesday at the CUA Softball Field.  The Cards lost the first game 8-0 in six innings and dropped the second in a heartbreaking 3-2 decision. With the losses, CUA falls to .500 on the season at 11-11.

Randolph-Macon scored two runs to start the first game off a pair of solid hits.  This was followed by a grand slam and another run in the top of the third as the Cardinal offense struggled at the plate.  Looking at a 7-0 deficit, sophomore pitcher Katie Ann Trotta (Seaford, N.Y./Saint Dominic) came in for the final inning and struck out two batters.  Unfortunately walks put runners on base and the Yellow Jackets managed one more the end the game in six innings with the final 8-0.

The Cardinals managed just three hits in the game while Randolph-Macon had seven. Heather Holley (Owings, Md./Northern), Kerry Convery (Carmel, N.Y./Mahopac) and Steph Clemente (Warren, N.J./Immaculata) each notched hits for CUA.  The Cardinals had one error in the field while RMC committed none.

The second game began in CUA's favor as two runs scored on a pair of Yellow Jacket errors. Convery batted in the first as she reached on a poor catch by the first baseman.  Lynn Brown (Laurel, Md./Saint Vincent Pallotti) hit in the second striking a long ball to right field which was misjudged by the outfielder.  Unfortunately the Yellow Jackets tied it up in the top of the second on two solid singles.  The Cards went three and out in the bottom of the inning and once again RMC used solid hitting to bring one more across the plate and take the lead.  Neither team would manage to score from that point on despite some pressure-filled situations making the final 3-2.

Both teams had six hits in the game with Kelly Lukacs (Chesterfield, N.J./Northern Burlington Regional) and Sophie Gage (Baltimore, Md./Mount de Sales) each notching two for the Cards. RMC committed three errors in the contest while CUA had just one.  Stacie Goddard (Nashua, N.H./Bishop Guertin) took the win in the circle pitching the complete game with three strikeouts.

The Cardinals will travel to Moravian on Saturday to take on the Greyhounds who have been receiving votes in the national poll.
