Three Softball Players Named All-Landmark
Gage earns first team honors

5/1/2008

WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America softball team had three student-athletes selected to the All-Landmark Conference team the league announced Thursday.  Sophie Gage (Baltimore, Md./Mount de Sales) was the lone Cardinal on the first team and both Lynn Brown (Laurel, Md./Saint Vincent Pallotti) and Kelly Lukacs (Chesterfield, N.J./Northern Burlington Regional)  were placed on the second team.  The All-Landmark Team includes a first and second team with 12 selections on each team. The voting for the team was done by position.

This marks Gage's first post season honor after an outstanding junior season, the first she has spent as CUA's primary catcher.  Gage is second on the team in batting average with a .333 and third in hits with 24.  She has three stolen bases in three attempts on the season and in the field she has 89 putouts.  The catcher came up with a number of big hits in key games this past season.

Lukacs earned second team honors at second base after anchoring the infield for much of the season.  The junior has 80 putouts and 43 assists on the season but has done the most damage at the plate.  She is leading CUA with a .344 batting average and has a team-best 32 hits on the season.  On the basepath, Lukacs is one of the fastest athletes in the conference with six stolen bases in seven attempts.  This is her third all-conference selection.

Joining Lukacs on the second team was sophomore Lynn Brown at the designated player position.  Brown moved to a number of different positions on the field before settling in as the batting specialist.  She is fourth on the squad with a .296 batting average and has a team best three home runs on the season.  Brown's 13 RBI rank her second on the team.

The Cardinals finished the regular season 14-16 and 6-6 in the Landmark Conference giving them the third seed in the conference tournament.  CUA will face second-seeded Scranton on Friday during the four-team event at Moravian College.
