Stockinger, McMakin honored by ECAC for performance last week
WASHINGTON – One day after earning weekly honors from the
Landmark Conference, Taylor Stockinger and Erin McMakin were named
the ECAC Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, on
Tuesday. Stockinger hit an impressive .615 in four games for
CUA last week, while McMakin went 3-0 with a 1.31 ERA in the
circle.
Stockinger was nearly unstoppable at the plate, going 8 for 13
with three doubles, a homerun, 11 RBI, and a 1.077 slugging
percentage. The junior went 3 for 4 with a round tripper and
three RBI in a game one win over Randolph-Macon on March 22,
followed by a 3 for 5 showing with two doubles in game two.
On March 24 Stockinger scored two runs and walked twice in a game
one win over Juniata, before going 2 for 3 with four RBI and a pair
of runs scored in game two.
McMakin was just as dominant in the circle last week, going a
perfect 3-0 with a 1.31 ERA, 16 strikeouts and a no-hitter.
The sophomore hurler threw her second career no-hitter vs.
Randolph-Macon in game one, going all seven innings and striking
out eight along the way.
McMakin then won game two vs. Randolph-Macon after working three
inning, and she completed her week with a six-inning, complete game
win vs. Juniata on March 24. McMakin struck out eight Eagles
and allowed two hits and no runs. In addition, she went 3 for
9 at the plate during the week with four runs batted in.
CUA is back in action this afternoon when the Cardinals travel to
face No. 18 Salisbury in a doubleheader. Game one gets
underway beginning at 3 p.m.
