WASHINGTON – After helping the Cardinals split with Scranton over the weekend, the Landmark Conference has chosen Mel Galella as this week’s Player of the Week. Galella went 3-for-6 with two RBIs, a solo homerun, and scored three runs. She was also perfect in the field with one putout.
Galella is the first CUA softball player to win player of the week honors this season.
In Saturday’s game one 7-6 win over Scranton, Galella went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI. She also hit her first homerun of the season in the top of the 5th over the right center wall.
In game two, Galella went 1-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored.
So far this season, Galella is batting .275 after 69 at bats. She has totaled 14 runs, 19 hits, four doubles, and is leading the team in walks with 11.
CUA is currently tied for third place in the Landmark Conference with Juniata with a 4-4 record.
The Cardinals will travel to the mountains of Virginia on Tuesday to play Shenandoah. The first game of the doubleheader will begin at 4 p.m. with the second game immediately following.
