Cardinals selected third in Landmark Conference preseason poll

WASHINGTON – CUA has been selected third in this year's Landmark Conference preseason poll, announced on Tuesday.   The Cardinals won 26 games a season ago, capped by the 2012 ECAC South championship.  It marked the second time in the last three seasons in which CUA won at least 25 games.

CUA returns 10 players from last season, including three All-Landmark Conference sections in Taylor Stockinger, Rose Shaver and Amy Laughner. Also returning is ECAC MVP Nina Curto. Joining the team is sophomore DII transfer Tori Marcavage, who will be very valuable in the circle for the Cardinals.

Laughner finished the 2012 season with the third highest batting average in the Landmark Conference (.430), while missing eight games due to injury.  Stockinger led the conference in RBIs (48) and homeruns (10) and Curto led in putouts with 356.

Defending conference champion Moravian was selected first in the poll after the Greyhounds earned 50 points and five first place votes. Susquehanna was next with 38 points, followed by Catholic (29), Drew (20), Scranton (20), and Juniata (17).

CUA is currently preparing for its Spring Break trip to Kissimmee, Florida, to compete in the Rebel Spring Games on March 4-9.

The Cardinals first home game will be on Monday, March 25 against crosstown rival Gallaudet. The doubleheader is set to begin at 3 p.m.
