WASHINGTON - The Catholic University softball team swept the Landmark Player of the Week awards on Monday, thanks to the performances from Victoria Capozucca and Amy Laughner at the Beach Blast in the Mountains this weekend.
Laughner was named the Landmark Player of the Week after going 6-for-12 at the plate this weekend. She was a perfect 4-for-4 in the team's opening 11-3 win over Centenary (N.J.) with two triples and three RBI's. She was 2-for-3 in the team's narrow 2-1 victory over Allegheny with a double and a run scored. Defensively, she also helped record five putouts to shut down the Allegheny offense.
Capozucca was named the Landmark Pitcher of the Week after posting a 2-0 record in the opening weekend at the Beach Blast in the Mountains at Roanoke. She struck out seven batters and allowed just three runs in an 11-3 win over Centenary (N.J.) on Saturday. The very next day the senior pitcher gave up just six hits and one run in a 2-1 victory over Allegheny.
