WASHINGTON - The Catholic softball teamed evened out its Landmark Conference record with a opening afternoon 8-0 shutout and a 4-2 win over the Juniata Eagles on the CUA Softball Field.
The Cards ignited with five runs in the bottom of the first. Kristina Lozupone sent the first runner home, when she singled down left field, scoring Rebekah Hoisl. Christy Sanchez finished Lozupone's opening effort, as she helped her round the bases on an error. Tori Marcavage tripled to center field, scoring Sanchez and Erin Adams. Rose Shaver closed out the inning on sacrifice to the shortstop to score Marcavage.
CUA scored a single run in the bottom of the fourth and two runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the contest.
Victoria Capozzuca, who notched the win, allowed two hits and struckout four.
The Eagles connected with the ball in game tallying seven hits and two runs beside the Cardinals nine hits and four runs, as the second win for CUA.
CUA took a 4-0 lead after the bottom of the second. Despite the lead, Catholic went scoreless for the remainder of the contest, as Juniata went on to score single runs in the fourth and sixth.
The Lady Cards will hit the road for the next four doubleheaders, Wednesday, April 9 at Washington College, Saturday, April 12 at Drew, Sunday April 13 at Salisbury and Thursday, April 17 at Moravian.
