WASHINGTON – After an opening 9-0 shutout, the Catholic University of America softball team dropped a 4-3 decision to the Greyhounds of Moravian in Landmark Conference action.
The Cardinals shutout the Greyhounds in the doubleheader opener with a 9-0 win in seven innings of play.
CUA out hit MC 14-6 and scored in the four-out-of-the-seven innings. Kristina Lozupone, scored Amy Laughner, who was on third base on triple to left field on her first time at bat for a score of 1-0 in the first.
In the top of the third, Catholic scored three runs. Laughner singled to right field scoring Hoisl for the only earned run of the inning. Lozupone reached first base on a field error by Moravian's shortstop to score Laughner. Erin Adams concluded the scoring effort when she sent Lozupone home.
For a 6-0 lead, the mighty red and black added an additional two runs in the top of the fifth. With Lozupone scoring Hoisl and Adams scoring Lozupone.
Christy Sanchez registered an RBI when she singled up the middle scoring Lozupone. Tori Marcavage, who was the final runner to reach home in the inning, got into the scoring action with double down left field to send Adams.
Victoria Capozucca took the win on her seven innings at the mound as she allowed six hits and struckout two.
In the second game of the day, the Cardinals found themselves tied three times with the Greyhounds.
On a 3-3 tie after the eighth, MC scored a single run in the bottom of the tenth for a 4-3 win.
