WASHINGTON – Landmark Pitcher of the Year Victoria Capozucca and rookie sensation Kristina Lozupone, who were both named All-Landmark First Team, where named to the 2014 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III All-Region softball teams comprised of 360 student-athletes.
Lozupone was voted second team, while Capozucca was voted third team in the east. The All-Region teams are nominated and selected by NFCA member coaches in each of the eight Division III regions. First team All-Region choices are eligible for selection to the NFCA All-America team, which will be revealed on May 21 at the NCAA Division III Softball Championship banquet in Tyler, Texas.
Capozucca paced the league with a 1.35 earned run average prior to the Landmark Conference Championship Tournament. She earned a 15-4 record in the circle by the end of the regular season with seven shutouts. Her Landmark earned run average was an impressive 1.07 to lead CUA to its first Landmark Conference Title and the program's first automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Regionals. Capozucca capped her senior season with an 1.57 era, 68 strike outs, 16 complete games and 17 wins over five losses on 25 appearances.
Lozupone hit .445 this season this season to rank second in the Landmark Conference. On the year, the designated player and catcher notched 53 hits, five doubles, four triples, two home runs and 33 RBIs.
The Cardinals concluded the season with the 2014 Landmark Conference Title and the program's first NCAA Division III Regional appearance with a record of 24-15 overall, 7-5 in the league, 8-4 on the CUA Softball Field, 6-3 on the road and 10-8 at neutral locations.
