Cardinals Sweep Drew in Landmark Opener

WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America softball team opened its Landmark Conference schedule on Saturday afternoon and swept the Drew Rangers, 9-1 in five innings and 10-3.

Senior second baseman Julie Keleti went for 4-for-6 with three runs and two RBI while her classmate Erin Adams added four RBI as the Cardinals improved to 10-6 overall.

Sophomore pitcher Kelly Lynch struck out six in just five innings in the game one win before freshman Sabrina Scott went seven strong and allowed just two earned runs.

The Cards scored six runs in the first two innings of the day including a five-run second. Catholic went on to plate three more in the third for the run-rule victory.

Scott finished game one 1-for-3 with a run and a two-RBI double while junior Megan Colline also added a run and two RBI.

Catholic racked up 13 hits in game two, highlighted by a 3-for-4 performance by Keleti. Junior centerfielder Rachel Valdes matched her performance as she also picked up three hits and added three stolen bases.

The Cards stole eight bases in game two.

Catholic continues its busy week of six games as they play a doubleheader at Gwynedd Mercy tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.
