WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America softball team took on Washington College on Wednesday afternoon and split with the Shorewomen, 6-3 and 4-2.
Catholic took the first game behind the strong pitching of sophomore Kelly Lynch, but were topped in game two.
The Cardinals jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after the first inning and led 6-0 after the fourth on their way to the win.
The Cards led 2-1 in the third inning of game two but a two-run fourth proved the difference.
Lynch scattered three earned in a complete game performance of the first showdown and struck out six.
Senior Julie Keleti was 1-for-3 with a run and RBI in game two, but WC second game starter Maddie Bennett allowed just three hits and struck out seven to limit the Cards and lead Washington to the split.
Catholic continues a six-game homestand this weekend when the Cards host Landmark foe Elizabethtown in a doubleheader at 1 p.m., on Saturday.
