Catholic Softball Sweeps Scranton

WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America softball team pitched its way past Scranton in a doubleheader on Thursday afternoon, 3-1, in extra innings before a 7-2 game two win. Sophomore Kelly Lynch and rookie Claire Sturek each threw one earned run complete games.

Lynch scatted six hits and walked just one over eight eight innings as she earned her ninth victory of the year. Sturek followed her lead as earned her first career complete game with five strikeouts and one walk against the Royals.

Scranton struck first in game one with a run in the fourth but Catholic came back to tie it up on aRBI single by senior Julie Keleti in the sixth inning.

In the extra frame the Cardinals were able to go-ahead on a two-RBI double by junior Megan Colline which scored Keleti and sophomore Rebecca Marks.

Lynch then came out and retired the side in order.

Catholic's bats stayed hot in game two as they plated two in the first and four in the third inning.

The Cards racked up nine hits as Marks, Keleti and junior Rachel Valdes each went 2-for-4. Colline and junior Alyssa Keane also had two RBI games.

Catholic also showed its speed on the basepaths as the Cardinals swiped four bags with two coming from Keleti.

The Cards now return home for a four-game set beginning on Wednesday, April 19 with a doubleheader against Hood at 3 p.m.
