BALTIMORE, Md. - The CUA softball team ended its fall season on Sunday with a successful scrimmage against the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. The Cardinals plated five runs and turned four double plays along with two triple plays.
All six Cardinal pitchers were able to see some action during the scrimmage. Starting pitcher Victoria Capozucca got things rolling for the Cardinals with freshman Kim Giurlando finishing out the scrimmage.
The Cardinals were strong offensively with five runs scored. Sophomore Amy Laughner started the game off with a massive triple to center field and senior Melissa Rebechi came up big later on with an RBI double.
The CUA defense was strong throughout turning four double plays and two triple plays led by senior standouts Nina Curto and Taylor Stockinger on the corners.
Head Coach Bruce McConkey said, “I am very proud of the hard work this team has put into the fall season and cannot wait until we get going in the spring.”
The Cardinals open their regular season in March on spring break, but will continue to improve and work hard throughout the winter.
