Trotta Voted Academic All-America
Junior center fielder Jennifer Trotta (Millersville, Md./Institute of Notre Dame) has been selected to the 2000 GTE Academic All-America College Division District II Softball Team.
Trotta, a two-time first-team All-CAC honoree, led Catholic University in batting average (.362), slugging percentage (.419), on-base percentage (.460), hits (38), runs (35), walks (19) and total bases (44). She led the CAC in stolen bases with 29 in 30 attempts. She added four doubles, a triple and five RBI for the Cardinals, who improved from 7-15 in 1999 to 16-19 this year.
Trotta, who is majoring in electrical engineering, has a 3.7 grade-point average.
To be nominated for Academic All-America, a player must be at least a sophomore with a 3.2 cumulative GPA and be a starter or significant reserve. The team, which is chosen by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) and sponsored by GTE, recognizes both academic and athletic achievement. District II includes Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
Quinn, Trotta Named All-Conference
Senior third baseman Jennifer Quinn (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth Academy) and junior center fielder Jennifer Trotta (Millersville, Md./Institute of Notre Dame) have been named to the 2000 All-CAC first team in softball. No second team was selected.
Quinn, a second-team All-CAC selection in 1998, hit .323 this year with 16 RBI (second on the team), three doubles and 14 runs scored. She started all 35 games and was 8-for-8 on the basepaths. She will graduate with a degree in biology.
