Season ends in CAC Tournament
SALISBURY, MD. - Fourth-seeded Catholic dropped a pair of games at
the 2003 CAC Softball Tournament and was eliminated falling in the
first game to top-seeded Salisbury, 8-0, and in game two, 5-1, to
third-seeded York.
Salisbury's Katie Mullinix tossed a no-hitter as the Sea Gulls used an eight-run third inning to defeat the Cardinals in the first game.
Junior Kate Moshier suffered the loss, surrendering six runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out one.
With the loss, Catholic fell into the loser's bracket of the double elimination tournament in which they met York, who lost 5-4 to second-seeded Mary Washington.
After leadoff double to left, sophomore Karyn Cata would score on an error to give Catholic a 1-0 lead in the first. But the Spartans used a sacrifice fly in the second and an RBI single in the third to take a 2-1 lead.
York then put the game away later in the game as the Spartan's Caitlyn Fedorishen smacked a two-run double to highlight a three run sixth.
Cata had two of CUA's three hits as Catholic left seven runners on base. Senior Kristen Werdann had the Cardinals other hit, going 1-for-4.
York used 10 hits to score five runs on CUA pitcher Natalie Banaszewski. The freshman struck out three but walked five.
The Cardinals end the season at 6-13 under first-year head coach Bruce McConkey.
