Softball Falls Twice to Juniata
JUNIATA, Pa.-- Led by the offensive attack of Kelly Lukacs (Chesterfield, N.J./Northern Burlington Regional), who finished the day with 11 total bases going 4-7 with one double and two round-trippers, CUA fell to Juniata in both games of a doubleheader.
Rachel Baker earned the highest batting average on the day for the Cards, going 3-5 with a double, as the Cardinals batting struggled throughout the day managing 15 hits in the two contests.
In game one, the hosts struck early as Juniata scored two runs in each of the first two innings. CUA cut that lead in half, but Juniata broke the game wide open in the third with a six run inning. CUA managed to plate six runs over the final four innings, but it wasn't enough as Juniata walked away with a 12-8 win.
Game two Started out with two walks that led to runs in the bottom of the first and Juniata would hold on to that early lead throughout the nightcap. The hosts added two runs in the bottom of the second on a double to centerfield.
CUA managed one run in the top of the seventh as Megan Rizzi (Mont Vernon/Souhegan High School) reached on an error and was scored by senior catcher Sophie Gage's (Baltimore, Md./Mount de Sales) single up the middle.
CUA will be back on the field tomorrow as the Cardinals will welcome Hood College to Washington, D.C. for a doubleheader that will honor the four CUA seniors. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
