Softball Wins Two on Senior Day
WASHINGTON-- Led by the seniors, who each tallied at least one hit in the two games, CUA softball took a pair of wins in a non-conference tune-up before the Landmark Conference playoffs.
In the pitchers duel that was game one, CUA centerfielder Christie Shaw (Norristown, Pa./Mount St. Joseph's) marked a hit in the third inning and was the first to cross the plate for the Cardinals. Megan Rizzi (Mont Vernon/Souhegan High School) followed Shaw's hit with one of her own and then both were plated as Elizabeth Best (Dumont, N.J.) reached on an error by the left fielder.
CUA pitcher Stephanie Clemente (Warren, N.J./Immaculata) allowed only two hits, and no runs as she gained her eighth win of the season.
In game two it was more of the same as CUA dominated Hood and ended the contest after only 4 1/2 innings. Kelly Lukacs (Chesterfield, N.J./Northern Burlington Regional) led off the game with a double and the offense for CUA didn't slow down. Seven hits, combined with eight free passes allowed the Cardinals to score eight runs in the first four innings to earn the 8-0 win.
On the day, the CUA seniors were 6-19 with four RBIs and a perfect fielding percentage. CUA will now look to continue its success into the Landmark Conference playoffs as the team will travel to Moravian for the 2009 tournament.
