Softball Falls To Moravian In Opening Round
BETHLEHEM, Pa.-- Five hits and one run were not enough as CUA Softball fell to Moravian in the opening round of the 2009 Landmark Conference tournament, Friday, 2-1.
Megan Rizzi (Mont Vernon/Souhegan High School) led CUA with two hits, including the teams only run on a sixth inning round-tripper to center. CUA left six players on base throughout the game, but the biggest scoring chance came just after Rizzi's home run as Sophie Gage (Baltimore, Md./Mount de Sales) doubled and Elizabeth Best (Dumont, N.J.) reached on a walk. Both advanced on a wild pitch setting up a second and third situation with two outs.
Moravian pitched its way out of the inning and stopped the CUA attack. Defensively, CUA scattered five hits but timely hitting and sacrifice bunting helped Moravian secure the victory.
The Cardinals will now await the results of the second game of the tournament which is currently in a rain delay with Juniata leading 2-0 over Susquehanna. CUA will take on the loser of that contest tomorrow (Saturday) morning at 9 a.m.
UPDATE: Game two has been suspended until 9 a.m. on Saturday due to rain. CUA will play the loser of that game once the game is completed at 1 p.m. The Juniata v. Susquehanna game will restart from the beginning at 9 a.m.
