Softball Notches a Pair of Wins Against Maine- Presque Isle
CUA Softball continued their winning streak after a double-header against the University of Maine-Presque on March 24th, making their record an impressive 13-5 on the year. The Cards defeated the visiting Owls 9-1 and 14-3.
Catholic's fielders, led by pitcher Stephanie Clemente, played an excellent game one, not allowing any runs by their opponents ME-Presque for nearly four innings. After a single run scored in the fourth, the Cardinal defense turned up the heat and held the Owls scoreless for the remainder of game one.
Meanwhile, CUA continuously lit up the scoreboard throughout the game. Following Megan Rizzi’s first run, the CUA Cards managed to bang out eight more runs. Rizzi and Stacie Goddard tied for the team’s most RBIs, both pulling in three each with Lynn Brown and Katie Ann Trotta slightly behind them with 2 and 1, respectively. Kristen Trancynger lead the team in runs, with three in the win. Rizzi and Megan Covert also ran to home twice, along with Rachel Baker and Lynn Brown.
The Cards flew past UMPI in the second game, scoring an incredible number of runs and utilizing the outstanding pitching skills of Cecilia Ehresman’s.
After the Owls scored three runs in the first inning, CUA tightened up its defenses and did not allow for any more runs. Impressive second and fourth innings brought in five runs each for the Cards, displaying the impressive hitting power of the squad. Megan Rizzi once again led the team in RBIs, managing six. Meghan Daubman also had an three RBIs, along with two from Mary Ann Marquis and one more from Melissa Rebecchi.
