Softball Drops Two to Emmanuel, Geneva
KISSIMMEE, Fla.- The CUA softball team dropped two games to Emmanuel and Geneva in their opening games of the season in Kissimmee, Fla. The squad fell first to Emmanuel, 7-3, and to Geneva 7-6.
Following the two runs by Emmanuel in the second inning, CUA attempted to play catch up, gaining the first of their three runs from Taylor Stockinger in the second inning. Stacie Goddard pitcheed two nearly perfect innings, allowing no hits from Emmanuel and pulling in a run of her own in the fourth inning.
After a tumultuous fifth inning in which Emmanuel managed to gain 5 runs, Alyssa Corvino pitched the final two for the Cards. CUA played well, not allowing any more runs from their opponents. They were unable to come back from the rocky fifth inning, and finished up with a run from Rachel Baker to end the game 7-3.
Following their loss to Emmanuel, the squad looked forward to a win on their first day of the spring season in Florida, but fell to Geneva College, 7-6.
Tracey Scanlon and Megan Rizzi led the way by scoring the first two runs of the afternoon. Pitcher Stephanie Clemente pitched a superb game, only allowing one hit in the first inning. From then on, the Cardinals and the Geneva Beavers played a close game, going run for run. Lynn Brown managed three RBIs from her four at-bats. Stacie Goddard also played well, providing the Cards with two RBIS of her own in the loss.
