Softball Struggles at Salisbury
SALISBURY, Md.- The Catholic University softball team managed just nine hits Wednesday afternoon, as the squad dropped two non-conference games to Salisbury University 5-1, 5-0.
Catholic stands at 23-13 on the year, while SU improves to 33-2.
Salisbury scored the first run of the afternoon, but the Cardinals evened up the score in the top of the second. Lynn Brown’s single up the left side brought home Taylor Stockinger for CUA’s first and only run of the game.
Salisbury applied a tenacious defensive effort, giving up just three more hits in the remaining five innings. Stockinger went 1-for-3 from the plate and registered the sole RBI, as the Cards dropped game one 5-1.
CUA continued to struggle in game two, managing just three hits in the nightcap. Salisbury notched their first run in the second inning and never looked back.
The Sea Gulls held the visiting Cardinals to scoreless, sealing the double-header sweep with a 5-0 victory.
Pitchers Stephanie Clemente and Stacie Goddard combined for eight strikeouts in the circle. Clemente’s record drops to 10-8, while Goddard’s falls to 11-5.
CUA will look to get back to their winning ways this Saturday, May 1, as they travel to USMMA for a conference double-header beginning at 1 p.m.
