Softball Earns Four All-Conference Nods; Rizzi Named to Second Team All-Region
WASHINGTON- Four members of the Catholic University softball team were named All-Conference selections, the Landmark Conference announced this week. Sophomore Megan Rizzi earned First Team accolades, while Lynn Brown, Taylor Stockinger, and Tracey Scanlon were all named to the Second Team. Rizzi also picked up Second Team All-Atlantic Region honors for her oustanding contributions this season.
After being named Rookie of the Year in her freshman campaign, Megan Rizzi finished the year as a First Team All-Landmark and NFCA Second-Team All-Atlantic Region honoree for her work at the shortstop position. Rizzi managed a batting average of .423 while starting in every game for the Cardinals. She amassed a team-high of 47 hits, 14 doubles, 7 triples, three homers, and 42 RBIs this year, and had a .925 fielding percentage.
Senior Lynn Brown finished her career as one of the most prolific first basemen in CUA history. Brown totaled 241 put-outs this season for a .966 fielding percentage. She was also a threat at the plate with a batting average of .298. This season, she garnered 31 hits, six doubles, two homeruns, and 20 RBIs.
Also a Second Team honoree was Taylor Stockinger, who ended her inaugural season with the fourth best batting average on the team (.355). The freshman knocked 27 hits, 10 doubles, and three homers this year. She also added 15 RBIs and 35 put-outs to go along with a .928 fielding percentage.
Rounding out the All-Conference selections was Tracey Scanlon. Scanlon finished the year with a .274 batting average, finishing with 23 hits and 9 RBIs. She also added 22 put-outs and a fielding percentage of .926 on the year.
