CUA Field Hockey Team, Athletes Earn National Academic Honors
WASHINGTON-Catholic University field hockey team was recognized
with a National Field Hockey Coaches Association academic team
award in addition to placing 11 student athletes on the national
academic squad.
The Cardinals picked up the team award with an overall grade point
average of 3.29 for the fall semester.
Junior co-captain Andrea Baick (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard)
led the Cardinals academically with a 4.0 GPA in marketing. To be
eligible for the academic squad, athletes must earn a minimum
cumulative grade point average of 3.30 through the first semester
of the 2009-10 academic year.
Also receiving honors were senior co-captain Carley Walko
(Freehold, N.J./Red Bank Catholic), a four-year honoree; juniors
Abby Banholzer (Hartland, Wisc./Trinity Academy), Meredith Chandler
(Tiburon, Calif./St. Ignatius), Emma Dixon (Ardmore, Pa./Country
Day Sacred Heart), Elizabeth Grumbein (Allentown, Pa./William
Allen), and Emily Sencindiver (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown); and
sophomores Mary Beth Leo (Winchester, Mass./Winchester), Krystyanna
Ramsdell (Millbury, Mass./Holy Name Central Catholic), Tracey
Scanlon (North Wales, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy), and Mary Swarthout
(Rockville, Md./Good Counsel).
Chandler and Grumbein also were honored for accomplishments on the
field, both making the Landmark Conference first team. Grumbein
also was named second team All South Atlantic Region.
