Wood and Jones Earn Swimmer of the Week Honors
Cardinal sweep Goucher in first conference meet

WASHINGTON - The Catholic University swim team swept both the Goucher Gophers on Saturday and the Landmark Conference weekly awards on Monday.  Freshman Brian Jones (Bookfield, Conn./Brookfield) and senior Lauren Wood (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) were named the Men's and Women's Swimmers of the Week after a pair of outstanding performances.

Jones led the Cards to a 101-53 victory over Goucher with two individual firsts as well as one in a relay.  He won the 200 free in a time of 1:51.98 and was also victorious in the 100 free with a 51.26.  Jones was one of four swimmers in the winning 400 free relay which came in at 3:37.01.

Wood also had a solid day as the women defeated Goucher 121-84.  The senior won the 200 free in a time of 2:07.52 and was second in the 100 fly swimming to a 1:05.36.  Wood was also part of the winning 400 free relay squad which finished in 3:57.52.

The Cardinals have two meets this weekend at the DuFour Center.  On Friday they will host Randolph-Macon and Juniata, on Saturday CUA will play host to Frostburg State.
