Cardinals wrap up regular season at Randolph-Macon

ASHLAND, Va. – CUA had its final tune-up before the Landmark Conference championship on Saturday when the Cardinals traveled to face Randolph-Macon.  Joanna Ladas, Julia Wisler, Chelsea Doyle, Caleb Capozella, and Dominic Grillo won their respective races, as did the women’s 400 freestyle relay team.

The women were upended by a score of 157-103, while the men fell 140-115 to the Yellow Jackets.

In women’s action, Ladas took first in the 1000 free with a time of 11:18.61, and first in the 500 free in 5:26.76.

Wisler finished first in the 100 backstroke (1:04.08) as well as the 50 free (25.55).

Wisler also placed second in the 100 free (27.16), while Nicole DiGiacinto (28.54) and Andrea Durbin (28.88) came in fourth and fifth, respectively.

Doyle earned her first place finish in the 200 backstroke, in a time of 2:20.10

DiGiacinto, Ashley Wilson, Ladas and Wisler won the 400 freestyle relay (3:52.48), while Aubree Guidon, Durbin, Doyle and Kristen Gunn were second (4:02.30).

Capozella touched first in the 100 backstroke, finishing in 54.89 seconds, and his time of 1:59.17 in the 200 backstroke was also good for first. He added his third first place finish in the 200 IM (2:00.89).

Grillo finished ahead of everyone in the 50 free (22.30), and later added a second place finish in the 100 free (50.83).

In the 200 free, Evan Hundley placed second in 1:56.20, and Luke Granelli (1:04.17) and Chris Ryan (1:15.19) placed two-three in the 100 breaststroke.

CUA returns to the pool on Friday, February 10 when the Cardinals travel to Marywood University for the 2012 Landmark Conference championship.  Action gets underway at 9 a.m.  The championship will wrap up on Sunday, February 12.
