Cardinals open second semester schedule at home on Saturday
WASHINGTON – It's been six weeks since the CUA swimming teams were last in action, but that will change on Saturday when the Cardinals host conference foe Scranton inside the DuFour Center. CUA has not had a meet since the weekend of December 2-3 when it took on Division I members Howard and Georgetown.
CUA enters this weekend with identical 2-1 Landmark Conference records on the men's and women's side. The Cardinals swept Goucher and Drew, while falling to Susquehanna during the first semester.
Caleb Capozella has had a strong year for the CUA men, capturing a pair of Landmark Conference Swimmer of the Week awards, most recently on November 7. Capozella was rewarded for his efforts vs. Susquehanna when he was part of four first place finishes, including the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke, 400 IM and 200 medley relay.
Other Cardinals on the men's side that have had productive seasons include Luke Granelli, Brendan Place, Brendan Reilly, Justin Kenyon, Stephen Gill, Stephen Henderson and Paul McGee.
On the women's side, freshman Julia Wisler has combined with sophomore Joanna Ladas to give Head Coach Paul Waas a terrific one-two punch. Wisler won two events vs. Howard late in the first semester, while Ladas took first in the 500 against Georgetown.
Katherine Kelly, Rachel Berry, Rose Buckley, Nicole DiGiacinto, Andrea Durbin, Aubree Guidon, and Ashley Wilson are several of the CUA female swimmers who have performed well this season.
Saturday's meet will get underway beginning at 1 p.m. It marks the final home meet of the season for the Cardinals.
CUA will head to Marymount and Randolph-Macon the next two weekends and then close out its season at the Landmark Conference championships February 10-12.
