Ladas and Capozella lead CUA against Royals

WASHINGTON – CUA opened its second semester schedule against on Scranton on Saturday, and there were a number of impressive individual performances by the Cardinals.  Joanna Ladas was part of four first place finishes, while Caleb Capozella won three individual events.

The Cardinals were swept on Saturday, falling 156-105 on the women’s side and 147-115 in men’s action.

The women’s 400 freestyle relay tea of Chelsea Doyle, Ladas, Nicole DiGiacinto and Julia Wisler earned a first place finish in 3:47.81, while the 200 yard medley relay team of DiGiacinto, Laura Keehn, Aubree Guidon and Wilser placed second with a time of 2:00.33.

Ladas took first in the 1000 free, touching in a time of 10:54.04, with Gabrielle Giambagno next in line in 11:26.18. 

Ladas also won the 200 free in 2:00.97 and the 500 free in 5:21.14, while Giambagno added a first place finish in the 200 butterfly (2:21.87).

Wisler won the 100 free in 55.57, and later, she finished second in the 50 free with a time of 25.07.

Doyle placed second in the 200 backstroke (2:21.59).

In men’s action, Capozella, Luke Granelli, Dominic Grillo and Brendan Reilly teamed up to finish second in the 200 yard medley relay, with a time of 1:41.46.

Justin Kenyon won the 1000 free in 10:28.01 and Capozella earned a first place finish in the 100 backstroke (54.54) 200 backstroke (1:58.50) and 200 IM (2:03.41).

Granelli won the 200 breaststroke in 2:20.42, and later finished second in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.40), while Josh Cutter placed second in the 500 free (5:14.57).

Chris LeDonne (2;:08.93) and Jakub Deptula (2:13.62) went one-two in the 200 butterfly, while Grillo touched first in the 50 free with a time of 22:06.

CUA hits the road for its next two meets, beginning on Saturday, January 21 when the Cardinals travel to face Marymount and Washington & Lee.  Action begins at 1 p.m.
