Women's swimming ties for second in preseason conference poll

WASHINGTON – CUA has tied for second in the 2011-12 Landmark Conference women’s swimming preseason poll, announced on Monday.  The Cardinals received 68 points, which was the same amount as Scranton, in the poll.  Susquehanna sits atop the preseason poll with 73 points.

Last season CUA placed third at the conference championships, led by current sophomore Joanna Ladas, who was named the 2011 Female Swimmer and Rookie of the Year.  In addition, Paul Waas and his staff were named the Women’s Swimming Coaching Staff of the Year for their efforts.

Ladas won three titles at the championship meet, while Lisa Brooks captured a pair and Shannon Silsby won the 100 backstroke.

Following Susquehanna, CUA and Scranton in the poll is Merchant Marine Academy with 45 points.  Next in line are Drew (35), Juniata (29), league newcomer Marywood (27), and Goucher (19).

CUA will return to the pool on Friday evening when the Cardinals host St. Mary’s inside the DuFour Center.  Start time is set for 5 p.m.
