CUA heads to Pa. for Landmark Conference championship this weekend

WASHINGTON – A season that began with a meet in October comes to a close this weekend when CUA travels to Scranton, Pa., for the 2013 Landmark Conference championship. The Cardinals head to Marywood University on Friday for the three-day event, which gets underway beginning at 10 a.m.

CUA has competed in 13 events on the women's side and 12 for the men. The Cards took on five Division I foes throughout the season, including American and George Washington to get things started in October.

Head Coach Paul Waas' squad went 3-2 on the men's and women's side vs. conference opponents, picking up wins vs. Goucher, Marywood and Drew.

Sophomore Julia Wisler has earned two Landmark Conference Swimmer of the Week awards this season (10-15, 1-14), and will lead the women into the championship. The Phoenixville, Pa. native won two events in CUA's last meet vs. Randolph-Macon and captured the 100 freestyle title at last year's championship.

Other Cardinals on the women's side to keep an eye on include Michelle Navarro, Laurie Wei, Rachel Berry, Nicole Castellano, Gabby Giambagno, Chelsea Doyle, Laura Keehn, Nicole DiGiacinto, Rose Buckley, and Andrea Durbin.

On the men's side, Luke Granelli (100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke) and Matt Wagner (100 free, 200 IM) are coming off a pair of wins vs. Randolph-Macon.

Justin Kenyon, Stephen Gill, Stephen Mooers, Dominic Grillo, Paul McGee, Josh Cutter, Chris LeDonne, Luke McGuire, Patrick McMullen and Zack Hutton form a strong contingent for the Cardinal men.

The CUA women and men finished fourth at last year's championship with 443 and 366 points, respectively.  Susquehanna captured the women's title and Merchant Marine Academy claimed the men's championship.
