Cardinals sweep Randolph-Macon in regular season finale
WASHINGTON – CUA wrapped up its regular season schedule on
Saturday with a sweep of Randolph-Macon at home. The men won
141-117, while the women came out on top by a score of
147-110. Winners included Luke Granelli, Dominic Grillo, Matt
Wagner, Laura Keehn, Laurie Wei, Michelle Navarro, Chelsea Doyle,
Julia Wisler, Nicole Castellano, and Rachel Berry, in addition to
three relay teams.
In the men’s competition, Granelli (1:04.13) and Luke
McGuire (1:07.45) finished in first and second, respectively, in
the 100 breaststroke, while Grillo won the 50 free in
22.27.
Granelli added a second first place finish in the 200 breaststroke
(2:23.85), with McGuire again in second place (2:27.03).
In the 100 free, Wagner was the first to finish, with a time of
50.32, while in the 200 free, Wagner came in second (1:49.95), with
Justin Kenyon (2:00.68) and Josh Cutter (2:03.35) next in line.
Wagner added a second first place finish in the 200 IM, finishing
in 2:04.81.
The CUA quartet of Stephen Mooers, Granelli, Grillo and Wagner
finished first in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:43.37,
while Patrick McMullen, Mooers, Stephen Gill and Grillo won the
400-yard freestyle relay in 3:23.87.
In women’s action, Keehn was a winner in the 100
breaststroke, touching in 1:15.47, and Wei won the 200 butterfly in
2:19.31.
Navarro won the 200 free (2:05.56) and the 200 backstroke
(2:18.58), while Doyle (1:05.88) and Nicole DiGiacinto (1:06.47)
came in one-two in the 100 backstroke.
Doyle also posted a second place finish in the 200 backstroke
(2:19.81).
In the 50 free, Wisler was the first to touch, recording a time of
25.62, with Rose Buckley (27.36) and Andrea Durbin (28.38) placing
third and fourth, respectively. Wisler also won the 100 free,
with a time of 56.57.
Castellano earned a first place finish in the 200 breaststroke,
posting a time of 2:45.66, while Berry took first in the 100
butterfly (1:03.09), with Wei in second place (1:04.34).
In the 1000 yard free, Gabby Giambagno finished second, touching
in 11:49.08, and Castellano placed second in the 100 breaststroke
(1:16.00). Berry posted a second place finish in the 200
butterfly (2:21.46).
The 200-yard medley relay team of DiGiactino, Keehn, Berry and
Wisler took first with a time of 1:58.93, with Doyle, Castellano,
Wei and Buckley coming in second place in 2:02.80.
CUA is now off until February 8 when the Cardinals travel to
Scranton, Pa. to compete at the Landmark Conference
championships. The event runs until February 10 and will be
held on the campus of Marywood University.
