WASHINGTON – Julia Wisler and Guido Saccaggi swept the men’s and women’s Landmark Conference Swimmer of the Week awards for the second time this season after helping both CUA squads to impressive showings at the Randolph-Macon Invite this weekend.
This is the second time this year that Wisler and Saccaggi have won Player of the Week honors, after the duo swept the awards on Nov. 11, and the third time that CUA has swept, after teammates Joe Cihak and Joanna Ladas won the first awards of the season on Oct. 14.
Saccaggi had a huge weekend for the Cardinals at Randolph-Macon's Yellow Jacket Invite. The freshman had a hand in 118 of the team's 506.5 total points, as he scored points in all six of the events he swam. His best performance of the weekend was an impressive 16:28.55 time in the 1650 freestyle, which shattered the Catholic school record by 15 seconds. The mark is the fastest in the Landmark this season, and the fourth fastest all-time. He also posted the conference's fastest time this season in the 500 freestyle (4:44.10) and the 400 IM (4:12.82). Both times also rank in the Landmark's top-10 performances.
Wisler was instrumental in the Cardinals' dominant showing at Randolph-Macon's Yellow Jacket Invite this weekend. Catholic won the 13-team event on Saturday. Of the team's 685 points, Wisler helped score 113. CUA’s margin of victory over second-place R-MC was 113 points. She finished fourth in the 50 freestyle (24.98) and second in the 100 freestyle (54.29), both the fastest times in the Landmark this season. She also finished the 100 butterfly in 1:02.20 to place sixth and swam in two runner-up relays for the Cardinals.
