Cardinals Swim at Fall Invite
WASHINGTON - The Catholic Men's and Women's swim teams competed this weekend in the Fall Invite involving the Cardinals, American University out of the Patriot League and George Washington University from the Atlantic 10. This two-day, three-session, non-scored meet enabled the entire CUA program to compete and allowed many of the swimmers the opportunity to swim off events.
The women were led by senior Liz McGinn, who placed fourth in the 50 Free, third in the 100 Backstroke and second in the 200 Backstroke. Other top eight finishers were juniors Katelyn Kenny (fourth in the 200 Backstroke, seventh in both the 100 and 200 Butterfly) and Katie Bates (eighth in the 1650 Freestyle), sophomore Krystal Dole (seventh in the 50 Free), and freshmen Heather Alvord (fourth in the 500 Free) and Maureen Martin (seventh in the 1650 Free)
On the Men's side, Freshmen Rian Foust had four top eight finishes (fifth in the 500 Free, sixth in the 200 Backstroke, sixth in the 200 Butterfly and second in the 400 IM) while fellow freshmen Mike Hoak added three top eight swims (sixth in the 100 Breast, eighth in the 100 Fly and fourth in the 200 Fly). Others with top eight finishes were senior Chris Totten (third in the 1650 Free), junior Dan Finnegan (seventh in the 200 Back), sophomore Sean Connelly (fourth in the 1650 Free) and freshmen Kevin Cravedi (sixth in the 100 and 200 Freestyles), Brendan Reich (eighth in the 200 Breast) and Casey Stoecklin (eighth in the 100 Breast).
The Cardinals open up in the Capital Athletic Conference next weekend when they travel to St. Mary's College for a double dual with the Seahawks and Goucher. Start time is 1:00 p.m.
