Men's and Women's Swimming Take Down Goucher
Men's defeat St. Mary's
St. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The men's swim team (2-0) went 2-0 Saturday in Maryland in its first conference meet of the season. The Cardinals defeated St. Mary's 109-60 and Goucher 134-46 taking first in eight races. On the women's side, CUA (1-1) beat the Gophers 121.5-78.5 but fell to the Seahawks 67-102.
CUA started out strong in the first race of the day with the relay team of Dan Finnegan (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan), Michael Hoak (Hamburg/St. Francis), Rian Foust (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) and Kevin Cravedi (Bethesda, Md./Good Counsel) placing first in the 200 Medley with a time of 1:45.58.
Foust and Cravedi both accumulated three top finishes on the afternoon. Foust took the 200 IM (2:09.86) and and the 100 back (59.87). Cravedi on the other hand placed first in both the 200 free with a 1:52.23 and the 100 free swimming a 50.89.
Also garnering individual firsts was Finnegan who won the 50 free in 23.61 and Sean Connelly (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) in the 1000 free swimming a 11:17.87.
For the women, three swimmers each had a pair of top-three finishes. Distance competitor Heather Alvord (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) won both of her races finishing in 11:29.85 in the 1000 free and swimming a 1:01.23 in the 100 back.
Katelyn Kenny (Estell Manor/Holy Spirit) placed second in both the 200 IM (2:25.73) and the 100 fly (1:06.39). Krystal Dole also garnered two seconds with a 58.63 in the 100 free and a 2:07.30 in the 200 free.
CUA will travel to Mary Washington next Saturday for another CAC meet versus the Eagles starting at 1:00 p.m.
