Cardinals Take Second at Randolph Macon Invite
Men take top three individual spots

ASHLAND, Va. - The Catholic University men's and women's swim teams both had successful weekends at the Randolph Macon Inivtational in Ashland, Va., Friday and Saturday.  Both teams took second place and members of the men's team won the three top individual points positions.

On the men's side, Kevin Cravedi (Bethesda, MD/Good Counsel) and Rian Foust (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) each posted 48 points to tie for the top individual performance of the day.  Mike Hoak (Hamburg, NY/St. Francis) was right behind the pair with 45 points.  The Cards scored 402 points defeating ten teams over the two-day event falling only to the host Yellow Jackets who registered 515.

Foust took the first win of the day with a victory in the 400 IM, swimming in at a time of 4:27.50.  His performance in the 100 Backstroke was good enough for a top finish with a 58.08.  He won the 200 IM in a time of 2:06.55.  Foust joined Christ Totten (Warren, Ohio/JFK Catholic), Dan Finnegan (Philadelphia, PA/Archibishop Ryan) and Cravedi to take the top spot in the 400 medley relay swimming to a 3:47.71.

Cravedi took the 200 Free in a time of 1:51.99 and the 500 Free with a 5:06.16.  His 50.91 in the 100 Free was good enough for a first as well.  He was also part of the first place 800 Free relay that included Totten, Casey Stoecklin (Windsor, CT/Northwest Catholic) and Foust coming in at 7:37.12.  Cravedi's final relay win came in the 400 Free along with Ray Pierce (Irwin, PA/Penn Trafford), Finnegan and Foust for a 3:24.09.

Hoak was victorious in the 100 Butterfly coming in at 55:07 for his first win of the day.  He also placed first in the 100 Breaststroke with a 1:04.46 and took second in the 200 Fly clocking a 2:12.31.

The women were just eight points from winning the invite posting 554 points while Virginia Military Institute had 562.  CUA beat out the remaining four teams that included Gallaudet and Goucher.

Krystal Dole (Corbin, KY/Model) finished in the top ten with 37 individual points tying her for seventh place overall.  She was the only first place individual finisher for the women taking first in the 100 Free with a time of 56.95.  She was also part of the winning 200 medley relay (1:57.18) along with Heather Alvord (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook), Olivia Chasse (Greensboro, NC/Grimsley) and Katelyn Kenny (Estell Manor, NJ/Holy Spirit).

The team of Lauren Wood (Doylestown/Central Bucks East), Helene Nicoletti (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield), Samantha McClellan (Union Town, Ohio/St. Thomas) and Liz McGinn (Kingsport, Tenn./Dobyns-Bennett) won the 200 Free relay with a time of 1:44.61.  And the relay of Solongo Erdenekhuyag (Rockville, Md./Rockville), McGinn, Dole and Nicoletti won the 400 Free relay coming in at 3:48.25.

Other top three performances included Nicoletti in the 50 Free (3rd, 26.14) and the 100 free (2nd, 56.95).  Chasse was third in the 100 Breaststroke in a time of 1:13.87.  McGinn took third in the 100 Back (1:03.43).   

CUA will take a break for the holidays before starting back up again with a trip to Florida for the St. Andrews Invitational.
