Kenny Wins 200 Back at Local Tri-Meet
Cardinals compete in second meet vs. D-I opponents
WASHINGTON - For the second meet in a row the Catholic University swim teams competed against two solid Division I programs. In the unscored meet, the Cards fared well taking home a number of top five finishes over the two days.
On the women's side, Katelynn Kenny (Estell Manor, N.J./Holy Spirit) was CUA's top swimmer achieving the lone first of the day in the 200 back with a time of 1:54.70. Kenny also posted a pair of ninth place finishes in the 100 fly (1:06.16) and the 100 back (1:07.90). Freshman Lisa Brooks (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) also had a solid day for CUA. Brooks was fifth in the 200 breast swimming to a 2:34.55 and eighth in the 100 breast with a 1:11.91. Lauren Wood (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) rounded out the top performances for the Cards with a pair of sixth place finishes in the 50 free (26.27) and the 100 free (58.15) as well as a seventh in the 100 fly in a time of 1:05.43.
Sean Murphy (North Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan) was the top performer for the Cardinal men posting a third place swim in the 200 fly in a time of 2:09.05, Murphy was also ninth in the 100 fly with a 58.96. Brian Jones (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield) also had a pair of solid swims taking fourth in the 500 free in a time of 5:04.81 and seventh in the 200 free with a 1:54.58. Rounding out the men's side was Brian Shelton (Annadale, N.J./North Hunterdon) with a fifth in the 100 breast (1:04.47) and Dan Finnegan (Philadelphia, Pa./Archibishop Ryan) in the 100 back (1:01.58).
The Cards will meet their first conference opponent next weekend with a trip to Goucher College on Saturday, the meet is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
